Béla Bartók is the most important figure in Hungarian music literature. Without his folk music collections, the work done by the generations that followed him to preserve the values of Hungarian culture would be unimaginable: the melodies he recorded define traditional folk art and classical music to this day, but also inspire the creators and performers of jazz and world music again and again. .
Bartók was keenly interested not only in the music of Hungary, but also of the surrounding peoples and more distant regions (e.g. North Africa, Turkey). The North African Arab collection plays a particularly prominent role in the production that will be the gala program of the Hungarian Day of the Dubai World Expo held in March 2022. With the help of Guessous Mesi, the Győri Ballet and the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, the Tiszta source presents some characteristic pieces of Bartók’s oeuvre through the connection of Arabic and Hungarian music, with a special focus on the relationship between music and dance.
